IDF Chief Vows Relentless Pressure on Hamas to Free Hostages

Military operations target Hamas infrastructure while hostages’ release remains uncertain.

Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi has reaffirmed Israel’s unwavering military pressure on Hamas, emphasizing that the ongoing campaign in Gaza is critical to securing the release of hostages and dismantling the terrorist group’s infrastructure. Speaking from the southern Gaza border on Wednesday, Halevi detailed the IDF’s strategy to degrade Hamas’s operational capabilities while working to ensure the return of approximately 100 hostages.

“We are exerting pressure on Hamas daily, driving it into greater distress,” said Halevi, underscoring the dual mission of freeing captives—64 of whom are believed to be alive—and ensuring that Gaza-based terrorist forces never again execute an attack like October 7.

Key Developments in the Gaza Conflict

Hostage Situation: The hostages are at the center of ongoing ceasefire negotiations, which propose releasing them in stages. Families of freed hostages have been vocal in demanding continued efforts to secure their loved ones’ safe return.

Military Operations: IDF forces are targeting Hamas’s leadership, supply chains, and weapon stockpiles. This includes both airstrikes and ground maneuvers designed to eliminate the group’s ability to operate effectively.

Safety for Border Communities: Halevi stressed the importance of securing Israeli communities near Gaza, stating, “Our responsibility grows even greater… It is our duty to provide a much stronger security framework.”

Dismantling Hamas and Future Security Goals

Halevi outlined a broader goal of ensuring long-term safety for Israelis living near the Gaza border. The military effort, he said, is as much about protecting future generations as it is about achieving immediate tactical victories.

“The Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip are coming back to life,” Halevi said, addressing IDF troops. “Knowing this gives me the boundless strength to keep going, and I believe this is a shared mission for every soldier in the IDF.”

Recent Developments in the Conflict

Intercepted Drone: On Thursday, the Israeli Air Force intercepted a drone from Gaza that entered Israeli airspace. The incident triggered air-raid sirens but resulted in no injuries.

False Alarms in Galilee: Earlier the same day, alarms sounded in northern Israel due to a false alarm near Kiryat Shmona and Kibbutz Manara, further highlighting the tension across the region.

Israel’s military campaign against Hamas represents a critical moment in the region’s security landscape. As the IDF maintains relentless pressure on Hamas, the fate of the hostages remains a powerful symbol of both hope and urgency. With Israeli communities slowly rebuilding and the military focused on eradicating future threats, the stakes have never been higher.
